Priya Ranjan Sahu, Hindustan Times Bhubaneswar, July 20, 2013A 28-year-old director of a private educational institute was arrested for allegedly raping a woman with whom he had gone a date, after meeting her on Facebook. Two others, who also raped her, have absconded after the crime.
"We have arrested the main accused Jitendra Biswal and search is on for the other two," Bhubaneswar deputy commissioner of police Nitinjeet Singh said on Saturday.
The 23-year-old woman, an engineering graduate, came in contact with Biswal five months ago on the social networking website, Facebook. They started chatting regularly and later exchanged their mobile numbers.
On Thursday, Biswal invited the woman on a date. According to her complaint with the police, after having lunch at a mall here, Biswal took her around the city in his chauffeur-driven car and picked up a friend on the way.
Biswal and his friend allegedly started molesting her in the moving car after forcing her to consume liquor. When they reached the outskirts of the city in the evening, they stopped the car and Biswal, his friend and the chauffeur took turns to rape her.
However, the woman's cries for help got the attention of some locals, who informed the police. A patrolling van reached the spot and caught Biswal while the other two men escaped. He was arrested on Friday after the woman filed the complaint with the police.
